A closer look at what makes our city truly remarkable:
Historical Roots
Zionsville owes its name to William Zion, a businessman from Lebanon, Indiana, who played a pivotal role in the city’s establishment despite never having lived here. Tasked with finding a new station for The Lafayette and Indianapolis Railroad, Zion proposed creating a town on the land of Elijah and Mary Cross, eventually co-founding Zionsville on January 26th, 1852. Initially dubbed “Zion’s Village,” the city’s name was a nod to its co-founder, William Zion.
Greenspaces Galore
Our city takes pride in offering an abundance of parklands, with over 500 acres of green space, 20 miles of trails, and upwards of 20 parks providing everything from playgrounds to golf courses. The public parks of Zionsville are complemented by the Zionsville Nature Center, Lion’s Park, and the Azionaqua Swim Club, making outdoor enjoyment a shared treasure among residents.
Exemplary Education
Families in our Zionsville apartments will appreciate the proximity to an award-winning school district. The Zionsville Community School System stands out as one of Indiana’s finest, with its facilities consistently earning top accolades, including the Four Star School designation.
Recognitions and Honors
In recognition of its commitment to greenery and community well-being, Zionsville has earned accolades such as the Tree City USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation, and a Bronze level Bicycle Friendly Community award from the League of American Bicyclists. Recent honors include listings as one of Indiana’s “Best Cities to Live in” and being celebrated as a “Most Charming Small Town” by notable sources.
